Pope’s Prayer intention for August 2018:
CLIMATE CHANGE & CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME:
“I have been invited by CAFOD to be one of their representatives
at the climate change conference in Silesia, Poland (COP24) in December.
I was last in Silesia 40 years ago at a scientific conference on the effects of sulphur dioxide pollution on forestry.
It is sobering to think that the greenhouse effect and climate change were hardly on the radar of pollution scientists at that time.
Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and ozone were seen as the overriding problems. We have changed the world's climate so quickly ! ”
SHARE THE JOURNEY
Many thanks to all parishioners who have supported refugees by walking and signing cards.
So far OLSE members have walked 1518 miles and signed 84 cards to the Prime Minister.
Keep those miles coming and lets try and make it 100 cards.
Please return completed cards to the box at the back of church, where there are also some spares and some walk recording slips. Stephen Garsed
An online petition is up and running already. Visit https://cafod.org.uk/Campaign/Share-the-Journey

RETREAT IN DAILY LIFE
TAKING STEPS TO END A LIFE !
Our Supreme Court has judged that it is not unlawful to kill people
by taking food and drink away from them. Yet the intention is to end
their lives sooner than would otherwise happen. We can have all sorts
of “kindly” motives, but in doing so we judge that a patient’s
life should be ended. A ‘patient’ is a person. If we allow
ourselves to choose to end a person’s life, we have crossed a
line into euthanasia by refusing to give basic natural sustenance to
As usual we invite the young people, age 16+,
to walk in pilgrimage from Honister across Haystacks into Ennerdale.
The walk is about 10 miles each day and concludes with the diocesan
Mass at Cleator at 3pm.
