WORLD MISSION THIS SUNDAY 21ST OCTOBER
‘ Human, cultural and religious settings still foreign to the Gospel of Jesus and to the sacramental presence of the Church represent the peripheries, the “ends of the earth”, to which, ever since the first Easter, Jesus’ missionary disciples have been sent, with the certainty that their Lord is always with them.’ Pope Francis
This Sunday we are invited to contribute to a special collection for MISSIO – to help support over 1,000 dioceses overseas who are too young or too poor to support themselves.
Visit: www.missio.org.uk to read how, the Little Sisters of Jesus have made it their mission to help the Menja people in Ethiopia , who are socially excluded and discriminated against, because of their traditions. They help Menja families grow and sell coffee for food, they help pregnant women deliver their children safely, and they educate their youth.
We can Gift Aid all donations by using MISSIO envelopes. This weekend the collection will follow immediately after the usual parish collection. As you so generously helped people’s bodily needs through Harvest Fast, please be missionaries to their souls.

RECENTLY RETIRED? Have you had experience in caring for property?
Or just plain common sense? Much to do, keeping an eye on the state of things,
contacting firms etc; time-consuming valuable work. Otherwise it falls on the priest,
who has less time for that and who anyway should not take the laity’s responsibility
off them! – God has been good to us; let us give back to him through serving his people
Help also in accounts, please. These tasks serve God and his people, and they free up
the clergy to do their proper thing. Other tasks, too. Please ask!.

CLIMATE CHANGE & CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME
:

"(Pope) Benedict urged us to realise that creation is harmed where we ourselves have the final word,
where everything is simply our property and we use it for ourselves alone.

The misuse of creation begins when we no longer recognise any higher instance than ourselves, when we are nothing else but ourselves."

(Laudato Si, para 6.)

Care of Creation – Our Common Home
"The creation accounts in the book of Genesis contain, in their own symbolic and narrative language, profound teachings about human exisitence and its historical reality. They suggest that human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself." (Laudato Si, para 66)

YET ANOTHER ATTACK ON THE UNBORN
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has produced postcards (see table in porch) so that you can send a message to your MP urging him/her to vote against a dangerous abortion bill which is coming up in the House of Commons on Tues 23 October.
Even better than postcards, you could send a letter to MR BEN WALLACE, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA or Email: wallaceb@parliament.uk
The bill seeks to decriminalise abortion which would remove any
effective legal protection for unborn babies and their mothers
in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
