St Clare's was formed when Our Lady and St Edward's parish was divided. The school, which can just be seen beyond the church on the left of the photo, was built first as Our Lady and St Edward's primary school was becoming overcrowded. It was used for church services from 1971 and this modern church - built 'in the round' - and the presbytery were opened in 1978-9. The church serves a large area with many new housing estates and also provides a chaplain to the Royal Preston Hospital which is directly opposite.
