October 2015
Parish Holiday - Day 5

Richmond Georgian theatre

Getting ready for their

Christmas Panto

Today it seats about 250 with the benches in the 'pit'
and the boxes round each dedicated to an 18th century dramatist, such as Dryden,

A typical audience in the 18th century, those in the pit standing, 400 in all!
Two of the speech 'bubbles' - streamers that can just be seen on the left - say:
'An amazing bridge has just been built at Coalbrookdale. It is made of iron.'
and 'Would you believe it? The Americans have just declared independence!'
(Rather unlikely for this audience, perhaps!
Rather more likely: 'Get off my toe or I'll beat your head in!' or 'Ooh I feel faint!'
